Day 2 in KL

After completing this mornings posting Adam and I both headed into town. Martin gave us a vague idea of what to do and even provided us with a little finance to help with the taxi..... Saying that, the reason being that only small denominations would be accepted e.g. 5RM, which is about 80p (a similar trip in the UK would cost you at least a fiver.)

Reaching the Petronas Twin Towers by underground, the sight was spectacular. The unique structures having their own shopping mall below, home to some of the more expensive names in retails e.g. tiffany's etc.

We ventured through the amazingly busy city to communications Manara Tower some 20 mins away where an observation deck is available for a small price. The views, although some what restricted by the haze, were amazing. KL is certainly a city that’s expanding rapidly as building sites can be seen all round.

Afterwards we made our way to Dataran Square, the location where British rule was hand back to the Malaysians, and onwards to China town for lunch. Again the strength of the pound was reiterated when the meal (a large Chinese of rice, chicken dish and veg) coming to the equivalent of £2.

We then head home from where Caroline took us to the Batu Caves, a limestone cave with a Hindu temple located inside. Outside stood a huge golden Hindu statue with an exhausting 272 steps leading to the cave entrance.... By this stage the effects of the heat were quite obvious. still, at 31 degrees I can hardly complain.

Now back at the flat we're taking a short break before meeting some of Caroline and Martins Aussie friends for dinner.....

Day 1 - Arrival in KL

Yesterday we touched down in KL at about 5:30pm local time. The flight was empty and allowed us plenty of room to spread out and catch up on some sleep. That said, it obviously didn’t provide quite enough as I’m up at 6am writing my first blog (either that or its due to the time difference).

Caroline and Martin (my aunt and uncle to the majority) met us at the airport and drove us back to there apartment, some 20mins away towards KL city centre. On route we got to see the local landscapes……high-rise buildings being very predominant with what appeared to be a jungle like environment either side of the motorway.

Arriving at there apartment, the view was just breathtaking and it was at this point that it finally sunk in…….. “the year” away had begun.

After toasting the occasion with a Tiger and freshening up from the flight we headed into the local suburb to get a light evening meal. The street gave off a very holiday feel through a combination of the sweltering heat (31 degrees), the local hustle and bustle with the random street seller enquiring on whether you wish to buy any of their “bricker-bracker”. Afterwards we returned to the apartment of where we retired for the night.

Tomorrow Adam and I venture into the city centre alone, hopefully not getting lost on route……. Should be fun….
